Star Trek Beyond (Eddie's Review)

Tonight I'm reviewing Star Trek Beyond, the third installment to the rebooted Star Trek series directed by Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 3-6 and second season of True Detective) that stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Peggs, John Cho and many more. This is also the first one out of the last two that J.J. Abrams stepped down to a producer because he was busy filming Star Wars The Force Awakens. A little history of the Star Trek franchise. I'm an average fan of the original series, but I'm not going to talk much about them since it would take me forever, so I'm going to start with the reboot from 2009. I really liked the first one. I loved all of the cast member's performances. I respect that the first one actually connected the original franchise and the story behind that actually works well in canon. It pays respect to the original cast while at the same time doing its own story. In 2013 , we got Star Trek Into Darkness, which I liked better than the first one. The 3D was amazing and I loved Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as Khan. Now in 2016, we have the third installment. Three years into their five year mission exploring the galaxy, the USS Enterprise has arrived at a Starbase known as Yorktown to resupply. While getting ready to deploy, Captain Kirk is asked to go on an emergency rescue mission at a nearby planet when suddenly they're attacked by a new enemy known as Krall and his army. Now the crew is stranded on this unknown planet without any communication with the outside Galaxy. They must find a way off the planet before Krall and his crew destroys Yorkshire. I really loved this movie a lot. The plot had me really invested. It had great performances as always by everyone on board with this film. I really liked the villain Krall. It also had stunning cinematography of the planet and amazing visual effects. I really enjoyed them paying respect to the original Spock, (Leonard Nimoy), who sadly passed away before the film was shot. I'm trying not to spoil anything, but they do pay respect to all of the other original cast members from the original franchise as well. The fight scenes were incredible. I really like how the series is getting better as they go along. My only issue is I wished we could had done more with the planet that they're stuck on. This is definitely my favorite compared to the last 2 films. It was sad knowing this was Anton Yelchin's (R.I.P) last role since he was tragically killed in a freak accident after filming wrapped up. Anyways, I highly recommend it and I'm going to give Star Trek Beyond a 9.5/10. You can also check out Justin's review of it on YouTube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ-q-aX93Z0
